Uganda consecrates U.S. conservative as bishop

Reuters Africa and the BBC reported on Sunday that the Archbishop of Uganda, Henry Orombi has consecrated an American bishop to lead a new branch of the Ugandan Church in the US, serving parishes in the state of Virginia that no longer feel able to tolerate the American Church's liberal stance on homosexuality.

The archbishop has called John Guernsey to lead 33 congregations in the United States that will recognise the Church of Uganda's authority.

The ceremony took place in the open air because the local cathedral was not large enough to accommodate the thousands due to attend.

The consecration came just three days after Kenya's Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi consecrated two American priests as bishops.
