San Joaquin; Episcopalians greet their bishop

From the Union-Democrat:

"This is an historic day," the Rev. John Shumaker of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in San Andreas said Sunday. "Presiding bishops just don't go to churches this size."

Katharine Jefferts Schori, presiding bishop of the National Episcopal Church, officiated at an evensong service in San Andreas, then stayed for a reception afterward, visiting personally with the nearly 150 people in attendance.

"I always come to the small congregations," she said. "That's who the Episcopal Church really is."

And that's really all the Episcopal Church will be, too.
It was larger than normal Sunday, however, with people from both Tuolumne and Calaveras counties packing the pews. . .

Read it all.
