Remaining committed to Christ's mission even as others choose prodigal path

An article by David Bena, suffragan bishop of CANA, in the Christian Post:

. . . Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you." On another occasion, he said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me."

Some in the Church are embarrassed by these words, and try to say that Jesus didn't really say such things. The words seem less politically correct than is comfortable in today's world. I'm glad that we in CANA and the ADV realize that these words actually speak life to us and to all who will believe in Jesus.

These words are vehicles of transformation to all. When we live in Christ we are transformed as we begin to live more in keeping with the life Jesus taught and modeled.

I have made visitations to many orthodox Anglican parishes, and can say with joy that they are keeping the main thing the main thing. While many parishes today try to change the scriptures to fit different lifestyles, CANA and ADV parishes are using the scriptures to change people and the society.

And in the midst of preaching the word, our parishes are also firmly committed to social action. But it is social action with Christ at the center, not on the periphery, and it is having a lasting value.

The new Common Cause Partnership of Churches, dedicated to historic, life-giving teachings, is providing an enthusiastic, orthodox Anglicanism in America: Radical Inclusion; Profound Transformation; Inspired Service. The mission is being carried forth as we care deeply that God's people be found and fed.

While The Episcopal Church seems determined to follow a different path and walk away from the obvious teaching of scripture and the foundational teachings of the faith, we as Anglicans must remain dedicated as strongly to Christ’s mission as a Marine fire team dedicates itself to its mission and to each other.

Read it all.
